Look at your smartphone. Ten years ago, it would have had a multitude of physical keys. And a very small screen. Possibly no apps.
Go back a few more years, and it would have had a black and white screen.

Mobile phones have evolved by leaps and bounds in the past decade.
But landlines…they’ve looked and worked the same since that cool rotary disk went out of fashion.

Why are smartphones getting all the love?

Actually, landline and business numbers have been advancing too, just on a separate platform: the internet.
To work around the constraints of traditional phone lines, landlines had to move to using an internet connection (or be left behind). That’s what VoIP means: Voice over Internet Protocol.

Business phones are still important: they give you that extra credibility, but they also allow you to have a shared number with your team, and keep your personal and professional life…(kind of) separate.

VoIP keeps these same advantages and allows for a lot more advantages and flexibility over traditional landlines (and it’s not just the HD voice quality).

Don’t like to be sat at your desk? You can easily have your business phone forward to your mobile if you’re not around. And you can also set a time window, so you don’t get any calls on Sundays.
Do you have separate departments within your team? Set up a call menu guiding the user to the right selection using a pre-recorded message.
If your team is busy at the moment, you can also have a waiting queue and add music to keep your customers calm (and happy).
Want to train your staff or keep track of conversations? Record every inbound and outbound call digitally, and listen to them at any time.

You can also create conference call rooms, create call groups that will make multiple extensions ring at the same time, and set up a virtual fax machine to receive old school documents…digitally.

Whether you’re a big team or a solopreneur, VoIP gives you the pros of having a professional landline AND those of having a modern phone system.
